After a rough start to the 2022 season, the girls varsity  soccer team has risen to great heights throughout their season so far as they continue on to the playoffs.

Last year most of the starting line up consisted of seniors who have since graduated and moved on. With this, the team welcomed many new young players who have led the team to great victories and who have brought a new generation of talent to the team this season. New players usually bring struggles of team chemistry, but with this team that was only a slight problem. After their first few games, the team began improving their connection on and off the field, and went on a five game winning streak as the season picked up, currently holding a record of 10-4-3.

As playoffs , the team is putting in their best effort at practice to prepare. Senior captains Madison Depina, Sara Sullivan, Kylee Eshner, Cailey Mingolla and Emma Pepe hope to lead their team deep into the playoffs for their final season at HMHS.

The seniors are reflecting on their time with this team and their playing career here at HMHS. Captain Emma Pepe explains, “ It hasn’t quite hit me yet, the fact that this is the last season playing with the team. Some of the girls I’ve been playing with for over ten years and leaving them behind is something that is going to be very difficult. I am honored to have been able to play alongside them during the time I did and that I was able to have an impact on their soccer careers. “

With the sentimental feelings of the seniors and the love this team has for one another it appears they have a good shot at winning in the playoffs.

Junior star center back Samantha Dedos show’s nothing but positivity as playoffs approach, “ I think we have a really good chance at making it past the second round unlike other soccer teams in Holbrook history because these girls have so much talent and chemistry when we play together.”

The team is set to kick off their first round game Friday, November 4th at home.
