Jose Igelsias to the Angels

The Orioles have traded their shortstop Jose Iglesias to the Angels for some prospects. The Orioles are a rather mediocre team, but some talent did pop up in their ranks this year. They had the debut of Ryan Mountcalse and Trey Mancini, who will both be back next year. Anthony Santander is turning out to be a pretty good bat as well.
One of the players that broke out for the O´s was Jose Iglesias. Jose signed with the team this offseason after having a breakout year with the Reds in 2019. He hit .288/.318/.407 with a .724 ops. With the O´s he hit .373/.400/.556 with a .956 ops and was just traded to the Angels, becoming the replacement for Andriton Simmons.
The Angels needed to replace Simmons, given he is a free agent and has struggled with his performance for the last 2 years. In the 2019 season Simmions hit .264 with a .309 on base and a .364 slugging to give him a .673 ops. In 2020 he had a .297 average with a .364 on base and .356 slugging to give him a .702 ops.
The Orioles in return got RHP Garrett Stallings and RHP Jean Pinto. Garret Stallings in college had 102.2 innings in 2019 with a 3.33 era and had 106 strikeouts. Jean Pinto had 12 innings in 2019 and had 2.25 era and had 19 strikeouts and only walked 3 batters. Many are very optimistic about these decisions. This will hopefully help the Orioles pitching improve while filling in the Angel’s hole at ss.
