Holbrook Jr. Sr. High School’s performing arts students don’t slow down for summer vacation. In addition to counseling at a theater camp for the elementary school students, several of these musicians performed in Jesus Christ Superstar at the First Congregational Church in Randolph. The production was directed by Mr. Jeff Hobart, who started the program last summer with a performance of Godspell. This year, the cast consisted of seventeen cast members from Holbrook, Randolph, Rockland, and Weymouth.

Jesus Christ Superstar incorporated many memorable scenes and fantastic musical numbers. Noah Hobart portrayed Jesus’ agony during his heart wrenching performance of “Gethsemane.” Derek Henry reappeared after Judas’s Death to lighten the mood with “Superstar.” Aiden Kelly showed the true frustration of Pilate when Jesus wouldn’t cooperate during “Trial by Pilate.” Rachel Robicheau’s performance was especially powerful, evoking real feelings of passion during her rendition of “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.”

The performance starred Noah Hobart as Jesus Christ, Rachel Robicheau as Mary Magdalene, and Derek Henry as Judas Iscariot. Other feature roles included Aiden Kelly as Pontius Pilate, Christina Forte as Simon the Zealot, Aaron Cohen as Simon Peter, and Thomas Denny as Annas the High Priest. Cyara Barrientos also performed with the band as a percussionist.

This rock opera has been a controversial topic for years, as different denominations of Christianity argue about how Jesus should be portrayed. Despite the differences of opinion, one fact remains; Jesus Christ Superstar was a spectacular performance. Holbrook students should be proud of the way they contributed to such an amazing production.
