“The Nun” Conjures Big Scares

The Nun

The Nun

All of The Conjuring movies and spin-offs have been hits, so horror movie fans all over were excited when the Nun was released. The Nun is a prequel to The Conjuring and takes place 20 years earlier. In the film, set in 1952, an evil demon, known as a Valac, takes over an old Abbey, and a Nun jumps from a window before it can take over her body. Three people – a Priest with a horrible past, a novitiate about to take her vows, and a man from the town – find the dead Nun and go to the Abbey to investigate her death. The subsequent ghost nuns and bone-chilling visions are only part of what makes up the plot of this freaky film.

In the movie, Taissa Farmiga plays Sister Irene, the novitiate, Demián Bichir plays Father Burke, the priest, and Jonas Bloquet is cast as Frenchie, the townsperson. The film was directed by Corin Hardy, who also directed The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring Universe.

What’s really interesting about The Nun is the fact that Valac is part of a Romanian myth, where The Nun takes place. There is also a theory that Sister Irene in The Nun is the same character as Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring, but this hasn’t been confirmed by the creators of the film.

I would give The Nun a five out of five-star rating, especially for its thrilling ending. But beware, The Nun is a rated R movie with some gory and scary scenes. If you are looking for a new horror movie to watch, especially if you’re a fan of The Conjuring series, The Nun is a good choice for you.
