This season the boy’s basketball team has had an outstanding season lead by their Coach and Captains; Senior Kyree LaPlanche and junior Jeremiah King.  The team is currently preparing to compete in the State Championship on Wednesday, February 28th, taking on neighboring Avon at home. Coach Gifford and every player on the team, especially the seniors, hope to make it far in the tournament and to eventually win it all.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a coach for this team Coach Gifford says, “is just seeing them mature and become just really good kids.”

This year will be the boys basketball team’s third straight year qualifying for the state tournament. One of the challenges that this team faced this season is being a small team compared to the other teams that they have played against.

Coach Gifford acknowledged this challenge by saying, “I think because we are small. We’ve faced big teams. We have to do a good job boxing. We are just a smaller team. We have to really work to compete.” Coach Gifford said, “I mean we are going to be a fairly high seed, it would be good if we play one game at a time. You lose, you’re out.”

This year, the team has five seniors. Coach mentioned how their leadership will be missed. He also spoke about their great game attitude and how significantly they have contributed to the team this season.

“Daniel Correia and Kyree LaPlanche were all-stars last year. Kyree was an M.V.P. (Most Valuable Player). Ryan Alusma starts. I start three seniors, my other two (Daniel Benevides, and Karlens Cyrius) come off the bench. They have all contributed.”
