The short-lived relationship between Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez has taken the media by storm because of the relationship’s surprising reason for ending. In July 2020, news hit the headlines that rapper and singer Tory Lanez had allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend, rapper and singer Megan Thee Stallion, by shooting her in the foot. It was said that the couple had been leaving a party when they had gotten into their shared vehicle. From there, Megan accused Tory of shooting her in the foot after she tried to escape from said vehicle they had been driving in following an argument. 

The headlines took to the media by storm, and many fans, blogs, and tearooms all had different opinions on the matter. During this time, and still, presently people continue to question the actuality of the situation. Many people believe that has created his false story because prior to her altercation with Tory, she had found out that he had been in a relationship with her friend and former assistant, Kelsey Harris.

Even with trying to shut rumors down, the public’s opinion has left her feeling hurt and alone. Feeling as if yet again black women are being deemed as unimportant and their needs and concerns have been pushed to the side. 

From Tory Lanez’s perspective, this feels like yet again another attempt to criminalize the black man and put a halt to his success. 

Amidst all the opinions and judgments, on December 23, 2022, the Los Angeles jury reached a verdict after seven hours of deliberation over two days. Tory Lanez was found guilty of three charges related to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, and he faces more than 20 years in prison and the possibility of being deported back to Canada.
