Varsity Girls Soccer- Leaders and Their Last Season
The Lady Bulldogs soccer team has always been a close group of girls that work well on the field, communicating and covering for one another. But also as friends, attending school together since elementary school and some playing together for as long as 6 years. The captains include Bridget Moore and Marissa Todd, center defenders, Emily Cochran, striker, and Dalice Rodriguez-Viera, forward. And two additional seniors Tiana Docanto, and Gessica Bonheur, both offensive players. All of which are playing their last season here at HMHS.
Emily Cochran speaks optimistically about the season thus far saying, “I feel like the season is going really well so far and I know this is what I’m going to miss most from high school. I love this team and I’m going to miss every one of them.”
While they all agree that they will miss the team and everyone on it, Marissa Todd sheds light on just how long they’ve been together stating, “Having been on the team since middle school makes graduating very difficult. It’s crazy that I’ve been on the team longer than I’ve been a teenager.”
Bridget Moore states just how close she has become with her teammates and looks to the future of the team saying, “I see my team as my sister’s, especially the junior class- I will miss them dearly, after this season we’ll never play together again, but I can’t wait to cheer them on for their senior season next year.”
Head captain, Dalice Rodriguez-Viera feels that her last season is “quite bittersweet.” She goes on to say, “as funny as it sounds, I feel that I’ve become almost a motherly figure for many of my teammates, always checking up on them, helping them on and off the field, being a listening ear to all who need it, and so much more, so leaving them in all the memories that came with them almost feels like losing a limb.”
It’s not hard to see the bond the lady bulldogs have created over the years and this will be an especially hard year to say goodbye. The team won their first game in the tournament 3-0 over Westfield Tech on Senior Night. Their last season continues Saturday, November 6th in Lancaster vs Harvard High School.
