Andrew Luarasi covers the September 1st Massachusetts primaries, which had been delayed due to the COVID pandemic. The first major election was the Massachusetts Democratic Senate primary in which Senator Ed Markey defeated Joe Kennedy III 55%-45%, making Kennedy the first Kennedy to lose a Democratic primary in Massachusetts. In other contested elections, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse lost to incumbent Richard Neal in Massachusetts 1st district, Former republican Jake Auchincloss won the crowded 9 person primary for Massachusetts 4th district with 22% of the vote, beating the second-place candidate Jesse Mermel by only 1%, and in Massachusetts 8th district (which contains Holbrook) incumbent representative Stephen Lynch beat his primary challenger Robbie Goldstein by a margin of 66.7%-33.3%. All the winners of the democratic primaries are expected to easily win their general elections come November.
