The first major election was the Massachusetts Democratic Senate primary in which Senator Ed Markey defeated Joe Kennedy III 55%-45%, making Kennedy the first Kennedy to lose a Democratic primary in Massachusetts. In other contested elections, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse lost to incumbent Richard Neal in Massachusetts 1st district, Former republican Jake Auchincloss won the crowded 9 person primary for Massachusetts 4th district with 22% of the vote, beating the second-place candidate Jesse Mermel by only 1%, and in Massachusetts 8th district (which contains Holbrook) incumbent representative Stephen Lynch beat his primary challenger Robbie Goldstein by a margin of 66.7%-33.3%. All the winners of the democratic primaries are expected to easily win their general elections come November.
